OH decided a few weeks ago that he would like to compete on Ron this summer, and particularly to event him. (bear in mind that he has been riding for 3 years, really only hunted and hacked and has never yet ridden a dressage test)

I said he'd have to do a few hunter trials, unaff SJ and maybe dressage tests first, and the next thing that came along was a hunter trial. We decided to do the open (3foot) course. very similar to an eventing course, really nice, and a little bit technical.

they got round, having 60penalties and only being 20secs off the pace even with that!!! 1 was a steering issue, and 2 were steering issues in a line of 3 fences, compounded by Ron napping back to a pony he'd overtaken!!!

so a few things to learn and practice, but all's well that ends well. really proud of them both - 1st one for OH, and 1st competition for Ron in well over a year after I damaged a nerve in my arm competing!!

pics coutesy of SHG photographic. on this link it's pic 6451 onwards. I can't get the 2nd lot of pics to work at the moment, but if you're interested it's the 2nd lot of Open class photos!

Sorry, it's got a bit longer than I'd meant it to be!! thanks for reading though, have tea and cake from me!

fantastic pics.Well done to your OH.Many people on here including me have been riding years and would have kittens at that ski jump so to ride around a course like that after 3 years and do so well is pretty amazing

he has no fear though - of anything - it's sometimes scary to watch.

also, Ron is a bit of a jump seeking missile and best left to his own devices a lot of the time when you go cross country.

it's been so rewarding tho to watch OH get to grips with the task, and get his act together with Ron and then get round on sunday.

I'm not sure who I was more worried about tho! ;-)

Gosh, well done.

Quite a few people I know went to Camp Hill. I was stuck on call so couldn't go.

Your OH is putting me to shame. I've been riding for 26years and I'm still only happy at 2'3"!

Oooh definately, we are in Barnard Castle although we are leaving in July for Merseyside!

My confidence is getting better, I went XC schooling yesterday and jumped some bigger fences by accident. I have a wonderful time once I've done it but I get myself so wound up thinking about doing it. What a wally!
