Well,

I've been having a rough time with my horsey lately, last time we went to a show was Friday 19th Feb due to a series of bad luck :( I had my saddle stolen on 23rd Feb so my horse was out of work until we could find a saddle, we got booked in with the saddler on the 2nd March, this was the soonest he could fit us in and we had to take the horse over there. Red has always been a perfect traveller but something went wrong, he was reluctant to go in the trailer that day but we went anyway, he was kicking but we thought it would pass but it got worse! :/ We carried on and when we got halfway there we pulled up to check on him, he had ripped his left hind travel boot to shreds :o So...we removed the boot and carried on, kicking and banging continues, we then arrived at the saddlery and went to get Red out, who, by this point had pulled a shoe off, taken a chunk out of his hoof and cut his leg with blood everywhere!! Anyway, got a saddle :D And then went on to buy some more travel boots, which by the time we got home BOTH back boots were destroyed and his leg was bleeding again, this then resulted in a vet bill and a week off work :(

Since then we have had trouble travelling until tonight!! :D He just throws himself at the partition and then loses his legs- at 17hh that's scary! So tonight we tried him without the partition (with full bars) and was an angel! (Well...almost! :p) He tried to launch himself at the partition once, which of course wasn't there so he nearly fell over- was quite funny actually! :p Anyway, we left him in on his own and he was perfect! He didn't make a sound- I'm so relieved!
We are going to a show on Sunday hopefully- wish us luck :D

Sorry about the long story but I just had to tell you all!

Yeah, definately did him the world of good :) The thing I don't get is he's travelled beautifully with a partition for nearly a year and he just suddenly flipped! Strange things aren't they :p

Great news! Similar thing (but not so extreme) happened with mine a few years ago, he had been perfect to travel for years but suddenly got very upset and started trying to throw himself to the floor.. Only thing we could think of was that the previous journey he had managed to unbuckle the front strap of his travel rug and it had slipped back, only he hadn't reacted to it at the time so I couldn't be sure. Spent a while taking him on really short journeys, he was always happy to load but still got upset to begin with. Anyway, he will now travel fine but I have always left his rug off.

Sounds like you can start planning your competition season then!

Strange isn't it! I'm glad you got yours sorted too! :) Got him sorted just in time :D We're going to start off locally then head further afield, I can't wait to get out jumping again! :)
