Well today it's peeing down again  I havn't ridden Merryn since Sat and Herbs since Fri and was getting fed up, so today I thought sod it i'll just take Herbs for a spin round the common and back. When I got there to my surprise the common was heaving with dog walkers with out of control dogs  So I desided to try and avoid them as best I could. Everywhere I went there were more dogs and I ended up going further and further away from home.
I got to a lovely wide grassy track and it was covered in puddles. I just couldn't resist it. I cantered through all the puddles yelling Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee as we went. When we got to the end of the track there was a dog walker. She must have thought I was barmy :o But she said she has never seen someone having that much fun on a pony or anyone with a bigger smile in the pouring rain.
Poor Herbs must have been so embaresed :p :D I love my pony sooooooooooooooooooo much.
LOL Sorry abit of a pointless post but just had to share. One day I may deside to act my age ;) :p :D :D

nice one :D Sounds like a properly good fun ride though :p

I was galloping round a loooong grassy track with a friend a few years ago doing similar - arms out like an aeroplane, yelling "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I'm flying" like the child I am (very sane horse :p) and we met another rider (think late middle aged man, very chilled, old horseman type) at the end of the track. He was wetting himself laughing at me :D

LOL Glad it's not just me. Herbies rains are to long to let go of. Maybe i'll have to tie a knot in them next time ;)

Poor Lucy had it just as bad. Once we were doing an endurance ride in the new forest (Before I lived here) It was my first time in the forest and we were flying along and I was singing Born free and the top of my lungs.
The friend I was with was hanging well back and I think she wanted to die when two other horse riders appeared from behind a gourse bush. :o :p :D

I've done that too!!
I was doing an endurance ride on a friends horse who rides in a western saddle.
My ride buddy and I were making up some time on a fast section of tracks and they horses were galloping on beautifully - We put our reins over the pommels, stood up in our stirrups, arms out like aeroplanes and whooooopped all the way down this track - Its truly felt like I was flying!!
That was back in April and we rode through sunshine, snow and rain all in one morning!! DONT LET THE RUBBISH WEATHER GET YOU DOWN :D :D :D

Sounds like great fun!! Although I'm of an age where I really, really should know better, I fairly recently decided to canter along a river bank, genuinely pretending to be Pippa Funnell and you can probably guess what happened!!

Yep, duck went up, the coloured diva slapped on the brakes and I sailed merrily over her head. Cue embarrassed face and soggy breeches!! Loved every minute :)

GingerTrotter See people try to knock endurance saying it's boring, But we know otherwise ;) :p :D

PetalPower oops. Isn't that always the way.

picolenicole shore is what ponies are for. Thats why I'm never getting a horse ;) :p :D

YEP!! :D ENDURANCE ROCKS!!
Its the most fun one can have with ones horsey!!
I am originally classically trained and a firm member of the 20m circle club! however I fell in love with a horse thats hates all that stuff and just wants to charge about the countryside - I've never looked back and am even training my homebred youngsters with a strong emphasis on endurance (although I still do 20m circles and jumping over coloured poles with those 2!)
Thank god for endurance I say!! my nutty ginger trotter is sooo happy!! and so am I!
Plus is wayyyy more technical than I thought it would be.. its a very challenging sport and not for the wimpy! :D :D

GingerTrotter A few friends though it was just a hack in the park till they came to a ride with me. They got abit of a shock. ;) They couldn't get there head round the lowering the heartrate buisness at all or the fact that you could be eliminated for going to fast.
I loved doing it with Lucy and hopefuly one day I'll be able to do it again. Maybe with Merryn. :)

This is my first season doing it and I was honestly nearly sick on my horse at the first ride because of all the trotting!! My horse has a insane trot being a "trotter" and I'd never had to work so hard in my life!! Trotting and cantering for 20km with no resting was a new concept for me - i only hacked in walk and gentle trots before with an odd bit of stubble field galloping.
Needless to say I have increased my fitness dramatically! lol!!

I'm not all geeky and have a spreadsheet with my speed categories marked up against distances so I can mark my map and make sure we plan our ride with enough time to cool down coming home. gingertrotter is a hot head and likes to go flat out all the way, so I go alot faster during the ride and make him walk the last few km home so bring his heart rate back down.
I cant wait to increase my distances later on in the year and start competative riding... eeeee! its so exciting!!

These are all great. Nothing like being silly to enjoy yourself. I have a 7yr old so I have a good excuse for being childish in that its for her benefit. She's too young to send out with young teens to whizz about. So I have to either do it myself or join in a teen ride. I see it as my parental duty to show her things like aeroplane impressions & jumping puddles, or anything else that stays still long enough.

We've got a road near the yard which had flooded a few times so far this year. It's been great for the horses getting used to walking through water and washes their legs as an added bonus. Last time we trotted through it and was great fun and felt very naughty. The cars can't get through either so that makes it even better .. :D it's now become a real benefit of all the rain we've been having.

Ginger trotter, lol that sounds epic! I'm quite keen to have a go at endurance, I think it looks great :D plus my pony has the smoothest, easiest to sit trot ever :D:D:D

Laura, I bet Lucy was enjoying that too - your friend clearly should've joined in the singing - always better to look mad than be the awkward, sheepish one not joining in :p

I so haven't been doing anything at all like that :o

JFTD.. I am full of envy! Unfortunately the road flood doesn't get THAT deep but there's still a chance the way the summers going so far. :)

DO IT!!! ps. jealous of smooth trottyness!! mine trots at about 20mph (friend cycles and can only peddal at 14mph - he trots ALOT faster!!) hes faster than most horses canter :D hence the nearly sickyness at our first ride! I now have mastered the art of standing up in my stirrups slightly and not actually landing back in the saddle on the downward rise, therefore it smooths out the motion and we can go even faster!! plus its a great work out - I have thighs of steel!! lol!

You need a snorkle on that riding hat :D :D has he got flippers on :D :D

haha it helps he's a very small horse too ;)

Eek, I think Fergs would just canter at those speeds - he's got a reasonable trot (still v smooth!) but little legs, so cantering might be essential! I used to do the hovering technique on my old cob though, he's bouncy as hell and trots like a maniac (well he used to, he's way too chilled these days!) - it really makes life easier! (he wouldn't have kept up wiht you either though!)

HAHA! I once had a bf declare in an "intimate" moment "god, nobody will ever be able to rape you, your thighs are like a vice" He was a silver tongued devil if ever I knew one

All highlands comes with naturally webbed feet :p I did get flood water in my mouth, as it happens :o

:D:D thats too funny!! but a reasonable compliment I'd say!!

It certainly made me laugh at the time... Though I laughed during most of our intimate moments - something he certainly should not have taken as a compliment :D

I'm quite proud of my "rape-protection thighs" :D

Dont do it!! I live by the phrase growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional :D

I'm fairly sure it wasnt just your mouth..... ;)

I got river water in intimate places at scouts the other week too. I'm classy, me :D

eta, I've dragged this thread into the gutter :o I'm sorry :p

Pfft!! did you announce it like you did that day??

Yes, but as I was half way across the river at the time, I don't think they heard / the sight of my clinging onto the rope bridge was so hilarious that they never noticed :D

Some great stories, don't think I'd get mine through that puddle jftd, although he's a it taller, so might only be knee deep on him?! :p

I went on a long hack this morning which has a section of 1mile long bridle way that runs alongside a gallops, I offered to be their pacemaker which they declined, spoilsports :p

I did get a nice brisk gallop on the bridle way thanks to the fit tbs thundering past the other side of the hedge, we had a great time the boy an I :D

My little scared of puddles pony decided that wading in belly deep water aint too bad the flooded stream in her field has helped. Well idiot here got cocky, got on bareback with no hat (gooo onn I like whipping!!!!)and went for a paddle, paddle then got belly deep, then chest deep. Then tripped me in head first...but guess what I could swim my way back on. :)

Gotta have fun on ponies whats the point of having them otherwise.

Could you imagine the fun if we all got together lol.

Lucy used to trot the whole way round rides of upto and including 80km at an average speed of 12kph.:D Once we even managed over 14kph but we did canter most of that one. :) She was only 13.2hh :D

I love that picture of you paddling in the stream ;)

And no worried about dragging the thread into the gutter I need chearing up as I just went poo picking without my coat  Now I have water in unmentionable places :o

Stencilface They just didn't want you to show them up. ;)

Toffee44 sounds like great fun. Why else would you have a pony and I think a meat up would be chaose. I so wish we could do it one day ;) :p :D :D
