I've thought this on and off for a while now......I don't think he's totally blind as he knows fence boundaries and can gallop up to graze next to Kinzzy etc!
But its little things like knocking into wheelbarrows and totally crapping himself, even though they are parked where they always are. Reluctance to come out of his stable sometimes, possibly cos of the change in lightness and general jumpiness with food put in his trough and headcollar on and off etc. I might be way off the mark......hope to god I am!

Has anyone had any experience like this? Or could shed some light on what could be going on? To be honest, I'd like you all to conclude that I am mad and completely over reacting! I will be getting the vet tomorrow!

We had one who napped all the time only on one side though. We got him checked and the vet said he was blind in one eye.

Anyway the vet will tell you. Good luck.

Thanks both, I'll ring the vet first thing tomorrow. Hope I'm just being paranoid, time will tell I suppose!

I hope everything goes well and he is ok, my mum had a horse that was suspected blin in one eye as he always bent his head really far one way to look through one eye he did this when leading/handeling aswell , the vet checked him out and said he wasn't blind in it but we still find it slightly odd that he does it.. :) Good luck x

I assume Teddy is the coloured horse in your signature?
Have you noticed your boy doing odd things when there is less daylight, twilight and night?
Can he find a black feed bucket put down in front of him in the dark? Don't panic its a lonnnng shot but my mind is on CSNB (Congenital Stationary Night Blindness) which is something some horses, some dogs and some humans are born with (Congenital) it does not get any worse (Stationary) and the animal or human adapts as they know nothing else, and it is manageable. Apparently it cannot be seen by looking in the eyes of the animal but Animal Genetics have just brought out a new test for it - I am trying to put together some information for an article on it at the moment (for a breed society newsletter).
Don't worry I am sure your vet will be able to help and advise you. I hope you will let us know what he/she says. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone, I will get the vet out tomorrow and I'll let you all know what he says.

Suenroux - Teddy is my new foal, not the one in my sig. He is a little over 7 month and is a clyde x cob. His feet bucket is black and he can find it ok, I have it in the same place though, not sure if its just habit he knows where it is! He knows to stop at fences, can find his friends in the field etc, but seems really clumsy. Just tonight he seemed to slide down one side of his stable door way to get in, instead of walking straight in.

He was a bit unsettled too, but its a foul day and he was hungry when he came in, bless him. Really tucked into his night feed before tackling his hay!

My boy is a total spooky wally! and for years I wondered if he had problem seeing as he would spook at the last minute, leap in the air at 'snakes' or rather sticks on the ground, walk into the gate and other silly things. I finally decided to get his eyes tested last year. Vet looked at me like I was a nutter and said, his problem is he is so nosey hes too busy looking everywhere else and then shocks himself and said his problem is he can see too well!! Hoping for an answer to his irrational spooking, he checked his eyes (you need a very dark stable to do this) and thankfully his eyes were fine.
Good luck tomorrow, I hope everythings ok.

Hi everyone, vet came today and carried out a thorough check on Teddy today and he can confidently say that his vision is totally fine! Phew!!!!!! What a relief.

Vet said I was right to call him after I explained my thoughts but after carrying out various checks, he wasn't concerned about his sight at all. He's just being a baby I suppose......A big one at that! LOL

Thank you all for your support and advice, on this occasion I was very pleased to be wrong! My vet commented on how chilled my baby was during the examination...its always nice to heat that, nice to think all my hard work is paying off! Teddy is a real dude! x

I'm VERY relieved that his eyesight is fine... I think with these big babies it sometimes takes a while for the messages to travel from the eyes, to the brain and then to the legs or whatever part of the body needs to take action! lol! Bless him! Glad the vet was happy with him.
