immersion heater

Sorry this is not horse related. but any how, we have no hot water as the boiler or what heats the water died on us last night. my mum said put the immersion heater on so we get a bit of hot water.... so any ideas where this will be and what it looks like? or shall i just boil water and poor it in.

Immersion heaters are fittied inside the airing tank (that big red tank thing in the airing cupboard. There's usually just a normal plug with an off switch on the wall near by to turn it on, or it may be a timer switch but they have an on of switch to so you can override it.
