My poor Appy boy Ben has been having a really tough time of it over the Xmas period and I’m looking for suggestions to help give him a boost/support his immune system.
After 14 years of only minor health issues, he really went all in and a week before Xmas suffered an awful colic/getting cast episode, brought on by too lush grazing in a new field.
He really banged himself up and was in a terrible way with a badly swollen head, but thankfully did recover quickly once vet arrived.
Unfortunately it appears he was cast for some time, and totally trashed his deep bed. He sweated up a ridiculous amount, and this morning I noticed what I thought was cobwebs hanging between his front legs. Upon further inspection, all of his skin/hair is sloughing off in this area, as well as around one of his ears!!
It is really quite disgusting looking and reminds me of when horses get stuck in rivers/floods and then days later all the affected skin peels off.
A gentle bathe and sudocreme for today and I’ll have the vet out to look at it tomorrow.
He’s currently on 2 small feeds a day of speedybeet, top chop zero, handful of oats, tablespoon salt, and Progressive Earth Pro Hay supplement. Will probably add some natural vitamin E, but any suggestions for other things that can help him feel a bit better very much welcomed.
