Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone had come across an adult horse with impacted teeth.

The impact occurring due to an adult permanent tooth obstructing the eruption of 2 other permanent teeth and the issue not being picked up as a youngster.

Thanks

my practical head says premolar 2 would need to be removed by i am not experienced with equine teeth.

what do your dentist and vet say?

My dentist is my vet. He wants it removed but has never come across it before so is a little reserved in what he can tell me re the risks. Especially as premolar 2 is not wobbly generally, we just have occurrences whereby we think he has knocked it and it starts to wobble slightly and gets inflamed, but then seems to tighten up again and calm back down, quite often within a day or two. These are becoming more frequent and obviously causes pain, hence the need to make a decision.

The main concern for me is that we don't know how strong his jaw is anymore due to the roots of the impacted 2 teeth having erupted from the bottom of his jaw, and no real way of telling.

He has also sent the x-ray off to Liverpool who also say they have not come across it before (in an 18 yo horse), to be honest I am grasping at straws trying to find anyone who has come across this before?

Thanks :)
