Just had the vet phone, my lad has come round from the surgery ok, the gut wasn't stuck round the spleen, but stuck up to the right side somewhere! They have put it back in the right place and cleared the blockage - so thats that hopefully sorted. However, in opening him up they have found two 'masses' one on his liver and the other in another part of his abdomen, they have cut that one out but the liver one is not in a good place to take out so had to leave it, got to wait and see what a biopsy brings - I'm hoping for a fatty lump! Final thing is they are concerned he might now be shedding Salmonella - where on earth he's got that from I have no idea, so he's confined to an isolation stable, going to see him in a bit. If anyone has any experience of any of these things please drop me a line!

Glad to hear he's through the surgery - good luck with the biopsy and the salmonella - Gosh horses eh? They really do put us through some stress don't they!

God, he is certainly putting you through it isn't he!!

Glad to hear the surgery went well, and at least they found the lumps and got one out - I hope you find out soon what it is soon.

As for salmonella - it didn't know horses could get that!! Hope it doesn't get him down too much

Just been to see him, he seems much brighter and vet was not too concerned about this Salmonella thing - more a precaution she said, so we had to dress up in white suits, boots and gloves!!! If all goes to plan and there are no complications I should be able to bring him home sometime next week - yeah!! Just fingers crossed for the lumps now! x

Glad to hear all went well.
I'm sure the salmonella thing is just precautionary - lots of horses carry the salmonella bacteria without getting sick at all - but it IS dangerous for foals/weak horses etc.

Hope he makes a full recovery and that the lumps are nothing.
Where did he go for surgery btw?

Xxx
