Will Dell contact people directly or do you have to contact them if you have certain model that may be affected.

you can order a new one if you follow the web site instructions.
i did.
i don't think dell will contact you i think they are trying to make sony take the blame and so don't want to make a big thing about it.

Thanks for posting this - I am on holiday at the momment and the spare battery I was given from work has been playing up - I've just checked it and it is one of the suspect ones. I'll put it in the garden until I can take it back to work!
