I was checking my account after I sold something on Ebay last night, and someone has been using my account for others to send them money, then trying to transfer the money into an account. I had a credit of over £300 in there, with 3 transactions totalling nearly $2000. Scary, so it is a warning to check your account regularly. I have made paypal aware and they have passed it on to the authorities, with a view to prosecution when they find the culprits.
Luckily they haven`t managed to get into my bank accounts, and when they tried to deposit money it was refused. One lot of monies is still being held. I changed my password last night and at 3am, someone tried to transfer money. Because I had changed my password, they decided to block all transactions. Lucky for me. So I have £103 in there that I can`t touch for at least 10 days til it is sorted!

The first illegal transaction was on the 2nd march, so lucky I checked now. I could`ve been ripped off for loads. Too horrible to think about. Anyone else with another company? Skype maybe?

How did the crims get your password?

There are loads of emails wanting you to enter and confim your details. More worrying is using public PC's with keylogging software installed

I closed my pay pal account down for the very same reason and would never have another but you were lucky yours was in credit mine was in serious debit.

Hi, not sure, I am usually very vigilant with spoof e-mail and never answer to them and recently sent one to ebay as I forgot the address for paypal. I know not to open paypal from spoof email but maybe I overlooked one and opened it from there without thinking, but I can`t see how as I always open it from Ebay as this is the only time that I use it really.
Baffled.

That must be driving you nuts wondering how they hacked your account

. Hope you get it sorted.

I think you can have the same problems with a bank account, but most have an added layer of security and aren't targeted globally like PayPal.

I know what you are saying. I had not used my ebay account for over 2 years and got a legal letter from them saying I owned £110.00. I tried to pursue this matter, stating I had'nt used the account and ended up paying rather than it going to court.

I have since cancelled my paypal and will only buy now and send cheques and obviously changed my password.

My Mum has been a victim of Paypal fraud. First they hacked into her hotmail account, somehow managed to get paypal to send a new password pretending she has forgotten it. Then the guy bought a £3000 car on her credit card, she has now got her money back. The police haven't done anything about it even tho they have the guys address and mobile phone number! Its a disgrace!
