Can anyone help me out by explaining how the BD points for an imported horse works please?

My horse is 11, was bred in the Netherlands and competed at their light novice level as a 4 year old gaining points. Didn't do many competitions so only has about 7 points on his Dutch record.
He was imported to the UK at 5 (based on the first UK vaccination record in his passport) but hasn't done anything over here since he arrived.

I need to register him as I want to do Affiliated with him. Have looked at the BD site but I'm a bit confused about how the points work.
Would BD add 15 points as he was imported as a 5 yr old plus his Dutch points? I'm a bronze rider and want to go out at novice. But if my understanding of the points addition is correct then he will have nearly half the allowable points for bronze novice under the new system even though he's not competed here in the 6 years since he arrived.
Have I got the right end of the stick? Feels like a hefty penalty for an older green horse whose only competition experience is as a baby

Yes he gets points automatically for being an import - to stop people bringing in imports to compete at lower levels I guess.

You can have his "automatic" points taken off him. I had this done recently. Also a 11 year old import from the Netherlands :)

You can have him downgraded by taking him to an assessment. Or for me it was much easier, I emailed BD, who gave me the email address for the dressage organisers in the Netherlands. I emailed them and they confirmed his competition record, which I then forwarded to BD. Everyone was so helpful and it was so quick and easy.

I already contacted the Dutch Dressage federation and got his record by email so that's a good start.
Thanks AlainaX sounds as though if I send that to BD they will use those points instead which would be preferable.
