Hi everyone

I am thinking about importing a Friesian gelding from Holland and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.

Are there any good transport companies that are really trustworthy or would I be better collecting myself? Should I have an overnight stop and if so, where would you recommend? I'll be travelling from Holland to Glasgow probably via Calais-Dover ferry as it will be shorter than any other ferries I think. What do I need with regards to passports etc for the horse?

Let me know what you all think coz there are probably loads of things I haven't thought of yet!!

Thanks!

Sort of - although I went via a UK dealer - let me know if you want their details, as I think they have tried various transport companies etc.

I imported my latest Friesian in to the UK in February. John Parker International collected him for me and brought him over. He spent the night in their yard near Folkestone, and then they brought him to my yard the following morning. He looked as fresh as a daisy. They were excellent, trustworthy, did a professional job and were pleasantly unexpensive.

I costed to go and collect him myself, but the return ferry ticket for my truck was more expensive than the whole cost of Parkers including VAT!!

Thanks for your help everyone. I'll have a look and see whether to buy from UK or Holland but I think I'll use John Parker if I do import as it seems much easier than having the hassle myself.

I have fallen in love with one in Holland but maybe I'm being too impulsive! Need to do some more research first lol!!

Second John Parker brought our Stallion over from Holland far cheeper than what it would have cost me to do the job myself. Sorted out all the paperwork and he had two nights in his yard on route. Came over on a shared load which also helped with the costs. Driver that arrived here in Lincolnshire was very nice and informed us how well he had traveled.
