I came across an auction website where you can bid online for high class horses in Germany. The website does say that you are welcome to go and view the horses before the end of the auction (this is not possible in my case).

For each lot, pictures and a video of the horse is provided along with information about its breeding. For some of the horses there is also an attached file of a scanned hand completed vetinary report and x-rays can also be requested to be sent by emails. Some of the horses also have attached a copy of their papers.

This is all very new to me and I have never bought directly from abroad before.


Opinions please?
 
The terms and conditions also say that if any stable vices such as wind sucking or cribbing etc that were not mentioned before the sale became apparent 7days after the sale then a vet chosen by the auction website company would be sent to investigate, and if found to be true the horse returned and a refund made.
 
I saw this already but I would be very concerned about buying anything off a foreign auction site, like running for the hills.

I'm hearing of a number of peoples imported warmblood horses ending up including my own which I had to pts last week with CVM & Ataxia.

Whilst imported horses may come with a vet cert, some with xrays of feet, knees, hocks etc... A whole lot of heartbreak could be avoided if cervical xrays were standard. Simply you don't know what you're getting until it all goes wrong.
 
Auctions like this are not unusual. But as far as I am aware they are selling very expensive animals, so are elite sales.

If you are not in this league, or are inexperienced, buy at home.
