Imprint shoes...

i think you have to buy new ones each time, judging from what my farrier has said. he's so convinced they'll help my mare he's bought her size already and is prepared to do the first set at cost to get me hooked, he says! (prob won't hold him to it though!) they look very very good.

Have you seen epona shoes almost the same but can be glued or nailed and can be reused. My horse loves them and both will wear them to event next year.

You definitely cannot re-use Imprint shoes. They have to be filed off each time and then new ones fitted. My Icelandic who has Cushings and rotated pedal bones, had Imprints fitted when he had an acute attack of laminitis. I am certain they saved his life and cannot thank my farrier, Jonathan Cane, enough for all the care he took in fitting them.

Thanks all...

On the instructions I have here it says to remove, rasp of the 'flange' (ooer) and peel off so I wondered if they were reusable and that any area that needs remodelling can be heated and remodelled.

They are glued on with a flap, if you like, about 3-4 centimetres going round the wall of the hoof to hold the base on. The only way to get it off is to rasp it away, hence the need for new ones each time.

I had three front sets each on for about 4 weeks - imprints could have lasted longer but farrier wanted to realign hoof every 4 weeks.

My farrier was so keen for my pony to have them that he came out on a Saturday - unheard of! And yes, they saved my pony's life, I'm sure. Worth every mega-pound.
