Hi all,

I'm trying to improve my horses canter but not getting very far!

His work with his collected and extended trot is really coming along, he will put his weight on his back end and be lovely and light in my hands. The canter however is not so good. I am trying really hard to not let him lean on my hands (also trying to be very aware of my own position so I'm not affecting it with that) but half halting just makes him heavier and the canter is on the forehand and quite flat.

Anyone got any tips for improving a canter and encouraging a horse to carry themselves in canter with their weight on their back end?

All tips will be gratefully recieved (from me but maybe not my horse! lol)

Have u tried giving him the reins?
I used to do it when my old horse was really on the forehand and feeling like he was going to fall on his face usually did the trick.
