Any brain waves other than resting over grazed poached paddocks quickly? Is there anything you can put down to encourage rapid grass growth?
Thanks

Rest, roll and harrow when dry enough. Amazing what comes back if you rest it! Then regular poo picking and don't over graze in future!

Why Potato fert?
Am interested in this thread as mine are not overgrazed but have seriously suffered during the last wet few weeks- At one point i had ducks in place of horses!

Don't put Nitram on, you will get lots of grass and laminitis. Friend of mine did a few years ago and the horses were in a right mess.

It wasn't me that over grazed it!, I am trying to bring it back . Thank you for the suggestions though.

If you have very little time and need to get horses on it quickly, then fertilize with Suregrow. You can put horses straight back on so long as it has had a few hours rain on it (won't be a problem at the moment). My paddocks look fabulous ATM after applying it in March.

Grass fertiliser is high in N in order to promote grass yield, but for horses you want slow growth over summer, you need a fertiliser which is suited to root stimulation, which is potato fertiliser

the ratio of this is 7 21 14, whereas a dairy cow grass fertiliser would be more like 14 14 10

The science is to divide your grazing & then rotate with the rotation to ensure that each field gets a spring & summer rest. Have to do the math for that.
If you want to get a long term improvement, rest the paddock til the autumn ( I know you don't want to hear that!) and then bring back into use. That will set you up long term. Good luck!

I can highly recommend Suregrow fertiliser aswell, my grass has never looked so good. Its specifically designed for horse paddocks and safe to turn horses out straight after its put on the field, ideal for me as i just have the one field.
