Nappy cob who hates going out alone ( so Ive tended not to bother riding) has arthritis in hocks. I decided to send him to vets for xrays possible joint injection etc. He is not covered for this by insurance as pre existing condition. OH says why bother, if youre not riding just let him retire, possibly on a bit of bute when needed, as its going to be expensive. However, I have recently found someone to come out with me on the odd hack. Can I justify spending a lot of cash for a once a week pootle?

Personally I would, it might also improve the likelihood of him hacking alone, as low grade pain issues often manifest themselves by napping.
He will also be more comfortable in his semi retirement.

one of our old ponies had a bit of arthritis, and we had her injected.
She wasnt ridden much either, but it was peace of mind that i knew we where doing everything possible for her, after all she'd given years of service to us and the previous owners.
It defintely made a difference to her, particularly when she had to have the farrier.
