My horse got colic last week quite bad and now he's got it again!! I'm really scared now because I thought it was a one off. I don't really know much about colic so i was wondering if anyone can goive me any idvise/information??? He lives at my mums house so her and the vet are with him but i haven't even spoken to her yet so I'm not sure how bad he is.

The kind of things I would be looking for would be
Have you changed feed?
Have you changed hay supplier?
Have you changed field?
Has there been any addition stress in her life?
Have you recently wormed?
Have you not wormed for a while?
Have you had a worm count and tapeworm test carried out recently?

There could be so many factors that could cause this problem.

Have a good think

I hope he is better very soon. It is very worrying but you need to stay calm and think through everything. (Easier said than done, I know)!!

No, nothings changed at all and he's not stressed or anything. Only thing is is that he is quite fit but hunting has been cancelled since christmas so he hasn't been getting as much excercise as usual, but it was the same story last yr and he was ok. I've had him two yrs and not had any problems so it does seem really wierd.

I've just spoke to mum, he is no where near as bad as last time but the vet has done a blood test to see if there is anything majorly wrong.

The vet told mum not to give him any food until tomorrow, but he will stand there cribbing all night otherwise which i wouldn't have thought will do him much good??

it's so horrible when you don't know what to do to help them or even what has caused the problem! x

Have you got him on any of those Ant-acid products? (Sorry I know very little about cribbing but could an ulcer be playing up)?

No, he's not on any fancy products at all. I've always just let him do what he wants but maybe i should try and stop him? I don't like the idea of a collar though, urrg, so hard to know what to do!!

I know very little about this kind of thing. I just know of a horse that cribs and the owner looked in to and used these products with some success.

Does your Vet know your horse Cribs?

Ummm, all I can suggest is to go and look around the site for info.

Oooh first of all contact "H's Mum" and discuss Coligone. Lots of people rave about that stuff for digestive upsets.

Buckybee...I should think it is a gastric disturbance, I only suspect this thru working with a cribbing horse that had constant colic, and Hs Mum may well be able to help.
Poor boy, its such a worry.
Has hunting been cancelled because if the wet?

Yes, and last week becasue "they thought it might get windy" WTF!!???? I couldn't have gone anyway tho cos he was ill the day before. Are you struggling to get out too?

If it's a cribbing thing though i don't understand why he would be fine for 2 yrs and then bet it twice in 2 weeks? So whats this Hs mum thing??

He's doing good now AND turns out mother has put him on some new "fat cubes" instead of his usual fat cubes, so maybe it is them? At least it's an actual possibility which makes me feel better! x

Jolly good

Are you still going to look in to the other stuff. Just incase something flares up again?

Glad he is better. What a relief huh?
