As title says , Im currently thinking about selling Tommy (section A ) I bought him to sell on, due to his size hes not going to be the type of pony that will grow with the whole family saying hes only 12hh . My son has not really shown any interest in him since a friend of mines daughter has been riding him and doing really well, If I thought for one minute that they would be looking for a pony I would have offered to sell him to them but they already have a 12.2hh . My son is only 7 yrs old but I know just doesnt have what it takes.

Anyways I would love another horse to ride and get back into the way of going again, ie shows etc .... But for me to do that would be to sell Tommy, I know it would break my heart to sell him , hes wasted at the minute on my son, My son is only 7 yrs old but I know just doesnt have what it takes, Although on the same hand I have a little rider that is willing to ride him and is doing extremely well on him(been placed everytime out, same rider that already has a 12.2hh) Soooo Im in a predicament whether to let him go and get a horse for myself or whether to hang on to him and let said rider get more experience with him . I have already rang a few horses in the paper .

????? I really dont know what to do, I dont know if it makes any difference but I take said rider and tommy to shows myself pay for entry fees and such .

What do you mean when you say your son doesn't have what it takes? - do you mean he is just not interested in riding, or is he not competitive? Perhaps he hasn't found a pony sport that excites him yet - ie gymkhana, hunting etc.

I had the opposite predicament to you not so long ago when I really thought I would have to sell my horse to get a decent pony for my daughter but as things have turned out I am able to do both. Do you think if you bought a horse for yourself before you sold the pony you may find a way to keep both or at least keep the pony until spring when you may have a better chance of selling him - which would give you more time to decide.

i would prob sell and get one for yourself. You want to ride, your son does not, yet you are paying for him to be ridden by someone else. Get a horse for you and enjoy him! Could you maybe sell tommy through word of mouth so you know where he is?

Well basically I bought him to sell on , until he turned into a cracker of a pony, I didnt think he would turn into what he has, hes just brilliant in every way, I was hoping to keep him for a few years, even to do lead rein with my nearly 3 yr old son . He has done lead rein and a few first riddens with my 7 yr old, but like I said hes just lost interest .

Hes a one in a million pony , I would love him to do my youngest and hope that he would take to horses like a duck to water, Like a I said hes a one in a million pony ... Hes got the looks, the talent for jumping, showing anything really . Hes such a special pony , but is in somewhat wasted .

Well put it this way any time I have asked him to ride he basically goes ... " humpf why ? I dont want to " and well thats enough for me .

I just dont see the point in paying and spending the time and money for someone else to ride him

Oh I see - well if he has no interest at all I would begrudge keeping the pony then. Perhaps you could put him on loan until your youngest son is ready to take him on.

TBH I think I would loan him out for a couple of years to someone you trust. Let him biuld up experience then have him back for your younger child.

I agree with kat_g. I would sell him and buy something for you to ride. If you're paying all that money, you're as well paying it for something you can ride and enjoy.

Ditto Kat_g,
I would sell him and get yourself a horse.
What's the point of paying out for a pony that your son wont ride, or offer him to the people who's daughter is riding it for you? GO have fun yourself with your own horse...
