in a stable yard

true this is what i thought but does it not harm your confidence to be constantly shown people who are loads better, i know it can give you something to aim for but anyway

There is always going to be someone better than you, in all walks of life, for the whole of your life. This can drive you foward and not hold you back.

I'm afraid life seems to be poor rubbish sometimes and I'm afraid you've just gotta get on with it and try to enjoy the ride.

i know and i do just ignore it most of the time and i dont mind people being better then me, thats going to happen, its just when it seems so unobtainable to reach the heights of other riders that you see every day.

anyway back to the original point what would you prefer to be. big fish little pond or little pond big fish

At my last yard I was a very little fish, it didn't bother me at all. I saw others doing well and it spurred me on to train harder with my own.

I am now the bigger fish (not huge) but perhaps one of the more successful in my discipline at current yard. It's a nice feeling but I've always been of the opinion I just like to keep my head down :)

But I think people are lying if they don't enjoy a little ego stroking every once in a while.

i think is was what i was thinking, fair comment

Big fish, big pond! LOL, kidding!

Am happier being little fish in the bigger pond. But I was a little fish in a little pond full of pirranah before.... LOL

Would much rather be in a small yard - but with all the facilities!

We have about 33 horses at our yard - which sounds bigger than it feels. There are 2 stable blocks, and the one I'm on is part-DIY and part-Full; I am usually the only one there early so manage to get through my jobs quickly (well, quickly for me).

We have a couple of people who compete at Medium dressage, and one who events BE90-BE100 level, and I find it inspiring to see them riding & competing - I consider myself a novice in terms of what I WANT to do...although not in all-round horsemanship terms as it were....

I bought my second horse (currently broken) to bring him on to compete at BE90/BE100, but there are always far better riders than me around. I compare my riding to my own riding - so I may not be as good as X or Y, but I am far better than I was 1 year or 5 years ago.
