A mare on the yard is 5 months pregnant and has been diagnosed with ringbone which is visible on both front pasterns. Over the last few weeks she has become obviously uncomfortable with her front legs which I put down to the terrible wet weather over the last couple of months. This week she has been even more pottery and this morning she could barely walk. She is out at night, in during the day.
Vet came out this afternoon and suspected an abcess (which the mare is prone to) but found nothing. Her lameness is not typical of an abcess, so my worry is that the ringbone is progressing at a rapid rate.
My question is, when a mare is in foal, could she be producing growth hormones which would affect her joints, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Vet thought that she was just sore footed. She has been prescribed Danilon.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
