I have recently bought a mare who was running out with a stallion. She has been scanned in foal and from scan and form of foal that was palpable, the vet thinks foal due around end of June. However the stud says that in September she stood for stallion she was running with and let him cover her for approx a week making foal not due until late August. They are NOT mistaken about this. Has anyone else known of a pregnant mare to allow a stallion to cover her/ If vet is correct she would have been 2 months in-foal when this happened.

Well from a September covering I would be thinking she could be due more towards the middle of august. Anyway, the vet can only go by estimation and may be a few weeks out - though not usually 2 months. If its a maiden mre - they are often a bit unpredictable nyway.

she could have lost the preganancy between the scan and september....?
most mares wont allow themselves to be covered once in foal.
unless yours is either very submissive or very randy!lol

my mare will show in season every three weeks whilst pregnant if kept near a stallion but we have never let her get close enough to be covered!

In the last few weeks we have removed a mare from running with the stallion as she has scanned positive, with a VERY obvious pregnancy and a due date in just a couple of months... and she has been tarting up and being served every 3 weeks! Some girls just don't know when to say no!

I had a mare do this when she was 3 months pregnant. It turned out of a further scan she had miscarried her foal and come back into season. She then got in foal again later that year to the same stallion and kept it.

Maybe that could have happened here??
