Cannot find the link on line but just picked up my copy of h@h to see picture of a very young 2yo boy pippa funnels old ride the tourmaline rose, backed ( someone is sat on the poor thing ) for the bargain price of 7k!

comments please?

If it's 2.5 and literally "backed", i.e. some light long reining and sat on a couple of times it wouldn't bother me so much. Otherwise I do tend to like my horses to last so... yes bargepole.

We 'backed' my friends youngster at about 2 and a half. She's a big, well grown girl (WBxIDXTB) and is already 16.3 at just 3 (this month). By backed I mean I sat on her and got off again.

I've done nothing more than sit on and walk round the yard half a dozen times in that 6 months. We don't lunge yet (don't like small circles on young joints) but do walk out in hand.

Now she's three we'll start to do a bit more - again no more than walk - but going out with her mum with me on board so she can start to see things and learn some basic aids.

Hi when you say By The Torumaline Rose do you mean 'out of' because The Tourmaline Rose is a grey mare!!! As for backing at 2 i'd rather do that than wait they are bigger and stronger, I wouldn't ride them away until 3 but backing at 2 is fine Imho. But hey I spent season riding yearlings (racehorses) and they reckon the bones are better conditioned for it??!!

I mean out of the tourmaline rose sorry

I personally think 2 is way too young for backing and by the photo the horse is not a mature 2 looks only a baby.

I would only lightly back and 3 turn away and start true work at 4. And would certainly never dream of paying 7k for a horse that has been backed at 2 too risky!

Funny the advert is not showing online yet, tried to find to post the link I thought they were online first then the magazine later
