Are th quartrs supposed to lead, be in line with the shoulders or trail slightly?
I think I know what it is (but I refuse to say in case I'm waaay off and I make myself look like a dick

I've got a vid of me riding a frends old dressage pony and friend said that the quaters should trail slightly but that was in canter half pass, I'm assuming the same would apply to trot?

I'm just starting to ride half pass with my chap, I always wondered this too (never ridden half pass before) but my instructor has us with shoulders leading, quarters slightly behind.

The shoulders should be very slightly in advance of the quarters.

Quarters leading is a bad fault that will be marked down and also makes it very difficult for the horse to maintain the fluency and activity of the steps.

The reason I said shoulders slightly leading is because I was introduced to half pass by starting in shoulder-in, then asking for the horse to move across the arena. I have no idea if this is "correct" as such but the instructor is very good and it definitely worked (horse and rider had never done half pass before, and had got the hang of it in 5/10 minutes)
I have generally been taught that to start off with the shoulders lead in half pass, once you are well-established you should be straighter (parallel to the side of the arena).

In half pass the forehand should be leading in front of the quarters but only very slightly as the horse should be nearly parallel to the long side.

Ditto, I have to start in traver first, then ask for the sideways and if he locks his neck (which is his get out) then shoulder in the re-establish the bend.
