Hi

I'm competing my three year old gelding in hand in April. I know that adult horses are generally shown in a double/pelham. However as he's going to be in the youngster class should he be shown in a pelham or snaffle?

I have the hunter style bridle for riding but i'm considering buying an inhand bridle all of which seem to have brass fastensings. If he should be in a snaffle is it ok to use the horseshoe bit or are they just for stallions? I'm finding it hard to find a brass snaffle to match.

An for evening performance ehat is the correct dress code for ladies I heard a suit but I dunno if this would look right on the off chance I qualify. The show will be held under Ponies UK rules.

Thanks!!

Hi :) I have a 14.2hh PBA that I showed as a 3yo last year. All season he was in an inhand bridle with snaffle. I used a rubber bit with brass rings but plenty of people use normal snaffles, don't worry too much about that! I would look at some pictures of Connemaras in inhand classes to see what most people use, I would suggest probably stick to the snaffle. Evening performances require glittery things, like a sequin blazer :) Leave the tag on then if you don't use it you can take it back :) Have fun!!

I would definately go inhand bridle and nearly always a snaffle.

As for you, tweed jacket, tie, gloves, trousers, show cane and beagler.

Evening performance, usually black but anything that sparkles with hair up. Horse turnout the same

Thanks for the advice guys!

One more quick question. Would I get away with using a dressage saddle for riding classes on the same pony? I can borrow a dressage saddle or use my GP but i've no access to a showing saddle and dont want to buy oe untill I see how he does in the classes. The GP isnt great for showing off his shoulder as its more of a GP/ jumping saddle. I've heard that most judges dont like to ride in dressage saddles but as its M&M and the judge doesnt ride so its just more of a visual thing. The show is the Irish version of Equifest so its a pretty big show.

thanks!
