I've recently put my back out and am struggling to ride competantly so wondered if anyone had any exercise suggestions I can use to continue to exercise my boy with as he's in the process of coming back into work from a pedal bone fracture. Because of this I didn't wish to pursue the lunging variations on a regular basis and wanted to limit what I do with him on the lunge. My intial thoughts was just leading him out in hand round the fields and local bridleways just in his bridle. Would he benefit from roller and side reins attached (he could do with his topline being built up due to the box rest from the fracture) I also have an equi ami I can use but again I don't particularly want to lunge him more than once a week.
Any suggestions for good topline exercises I can do from the ground would be appreciated! He's very level headed and has a sane head on him so I feel confident doing most ground work with him. He's already been back in work for 8 weeks hacking for up to an hour a day before my back went and he's managed to retain a good amount of fitness even though he's had the box rest.
