I'm clueless. Haven't done showing for a veeeerrry long time.

We're going to show baby cob the world and it's a friendly local-ish show so if I'm flying a cob shaped kite then I'll come home.

He hasn't got the floof really and I've already hogged him after he scratched most of his mane out on the shelter so it'll be feather off. Any recommendations on how to do that and blend it in to the rest of his legs v much appreciated.

What browband can I get away with? The one that comes with his bridle is too tight and I'm trying to do this on the cheap so what can I get that's appropriate? Obviously won't match but just needs to be ok for the day. Last time I showed someone's pony for them the reins were replaced by a single rein with attached with a clip to the bit. I thought it was called a coupling but if I Google horse coupling on my work computer the output will get me fired.

Bay with white stockings - beige trousers??

It'll probably rain heavily in the run up to it and I'll be up at 3 trying to make him vaguely presentable!

Plain browband for a cob. It is indeed a coupling you need https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/38434137...E647P2LQB2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY For an older horse two reins are also ok, but I’d probably go with a coupling for a baby. You could just wear black trousers if he has white stocking. The colour should be contrasting.

Look on the bright side. It’s the only time you can get away with the kite flying as you can just keep repeating “It’s his first show” to excuse him. 😂

Brilliant - thank you. Plus black trousers already in the wardrobe so saving ££! I just need to find a browband that's plain and vaguely looks ok with his existing bridle. He's in a hanging cheek ported bit at the moment - I'm guessing a snaffle would probably be better?

I already have "sorry he's just young" on repeat from last weekend's organised ride. I'm wearing my crash hat no matter what the dress code is whilst hoping he doesn't show the judge all his special flying powers 🙄

I just clip em out a few weeks before the show - by the time the show comes round it looks natural
Ah - ok. Well clipping can be this weekend's job then. I have some happy drugs in case he fidgets. (May have had to hide the microcob since Feb when fidgeting = dodgy stripe!!)

Sort of looking forward to it in a no pressure kind of way. We've entered best turned out too. I was a teenager the last time I entered a best turned out class and came last ☹️

plain browband definitely! for pants contrasting is better, but you’d like to think any decent judge can tell the difference between human legs and horse legs wouldn’t you😂 i have navy to go with my jacket even though both girls have dark legs, i love that jacket almost as much as i love my girls so i need to do it justice too!🤣

I love my jacket too! I've had it for 20 years and wouldn't part with it!

As others have said. Clip out completely and give a week or so to grow back in. Plain flat browband. A simple snaffle will look better than a hanging cheek if you have one. Reins are fine if they are plain, plaited or laced leather not rubber so no need to get a lead rein and coupling.

Your black trousers will be fine as will a hard hat. Gloves are a must and never black ones. A show cane finishes off the look. You can usually pick one up for £10 in a tack shop or I am pretty sure there will be someone at the show that will lend you one for the BTO class at the very least.

Enjoy, have fun and remember to get some pics!

I need to see if I can get in my jacket! Gloves can go on the list with a new browband. Cheap show cane too.

And if it rains and the little monster sits in mud I'll cry.

A very superior place.

If you arrive and unload two hours early your cob will have stopped the kite flying display by the time the class starts. Take him on a tour of the attractions, buy an ice cream from the van, say hello to dogs, etc.
Wear hat and gloves and have a very long lead rope, of course.

For the clipping, I do some up strokes but for only the little bit of heel and the ergot, like a diamond shape. Then, it is downwards for the rest of the back of the leg. On some horses that can be from above the knee! There will likely be a little side 'seam' but I place that next to the tendons, so the little seam falls into the tendon dint!

I also do the front of the feet, little up strokes for about half an inch, then down strokes - from wherever sill feather starts.

Finally, to blend, I will kind of start with the clippers at a steep angle, but downwards and only lightly touching, then as I move downwards, I will make the angle flatter and get closer to the leg. That way, there are no steps.

You need coarse blades. I made a pig of Rigsby's when I accidentally bought fine.

It does take some practice though!!!
