Is there such a thing? Someone to help me (and Bear) with in hand lateral work, pole work etc to keep us on track and make sure we are doing things correctly...

Tracey May is very good at lateral in-hand work. I think she's around Eversley way and covers an area from Reading down to Guildford. And if you can get a slot at one of her regular training locations she'll happily do an in-hand session rather than ridden.

not sure how accessible Bury Farm is for you, Simon Battram (website is Step Into Dressage) is based there, he does clinics in various locations too.

Came here to suggest Tracey May and Simon Battram too.

A friend of mine used to have ridden and in-hand lessons with Diane Thurman-Baker and they were great, but yep that's a long way to go!

Schooling exercises in-hand by Oliver Hilberger is my all time favourite book on the subject. It's so easy to follow even without an instructor.

101 horsemanship exercises is also brilliant and whilst it's not necessarily classical, it does give a lot of info on handler position and what effect that has on the horse.

Anja beran has a few good videos on her youtube channel, she is perfection. They are not instructional but they are inspirational as are Philippe Karl's DVDs. The High Noon series has a few bits of in-hand and lunging, especially the first one. Worth a watch

Instructors your way - Merrigan Burton, Mark Fuller, possibly Liana Upton and Becky Holden although the latter 2 are a bit further away

He does lessons at my yard. I’ve always been too scared to get a lesson with him as he always sounds very stern!

simon?! He's such a nice bloke. I took my weird welsh to him, had a few in hand and also ridden lessons, and also rode my nutty WB. He was really nice. and always has polos for good ponies.

On the North Wales border but Dane Rawlins is fabulous at the in hand work. I think he’s based down south but does clinics at Whitegate farm.

I had a ridden lesson with Simon. It was very good - my OH actually approved so just have been. Not managed another due to distance logistics etc.

He made a fellow livery cry who is normally pretty hard! But then other people at the yard love him and have lessons every couple of weeks. I’m happy with my instructor so not actually tried him myself.

Out the box suggestion but (good!) western trainers are very hot on groundwork. At high level it's about getting control of their feet/hooves and then you can do all the movements that you want including lateral and what most people would class as dressage movements.

Geography is not my strong point so no idea who to suggest as being close to you but some names off the top of my head:
Jason Webb
Joe Midgely
Guy Robertson -
Alan Payne (Hallo2012 sent a dressage horse to him for backing iirc he travels a lot for lessons)
David Deptford - Cambridge
Olivia (I want to say) Lochhead? Assistant trainer to David Deptford
Lee Rutter - nottingham
Sam Magdelano - Notts I think but travel a lot
Emma Chapman- Yorkshire

@Alibear might be able to suggest others if it's something that you would be interested in

I've done a lot of inhand work through online modules with Trudi Dempsey and have found her fantastic. I initially had some reservations about how it would work but in some ways it was more helpful as she helped me become more self aware and analytical.
