Is a hacking jacket suitable attire? Don't really want to buy something I will never wear again.

I do wear a tweed hacking jacket, but its entirely up to you, lots of people just wear shirt/tie/waistcoat.

Thanks jakki I don't have a waistcoat and since I am just doing it to socialise my youngster I was thinking a hacking jacket would be more useful as I could wear that to most other ridden things couldn't I?

Do you think ariat grassmere long boots would be ok and dark trousers? Are black trousers a no no?

I haven't got anything else and can't afford to spend a fortune on things I will never use again

The general rule of thumb, is; wear a contrasting colour to the horse's legs, in order to show them off as much as possible.

If it's the coloured in your sig I would wear dark trousers and some short boots that are comfy for you to run in, looks nicer than long boots. I wear some cheapo dark brown joddie boots and Matalan £10 special dark trousers (also useful for nights out)!

It's the one on the left. She has white legs. I have some brown jod boots but they are a bit scruffy.

What colour of "dark" are your trousers?

Mine are a very dark chocolate brown - my welsh is a chestnut with flaxen legs, my coloured has white legs. I find black a bit too harsh. Get a tin of brown boot polish and revive the joddie boots - I use my old ones as I cannot run in new boots, they need to be worn in (scruffy) to be comfy!
