I am taking my coloured hannovarian x yearling filly to a little local show soon...

I have only ever shown mature horses in hand before for which we have obviously had a bridle on the horse.

Surely I don't have to have a bridle for her?

It depends how old she is and what class you are doing. it is optional for a lot of classes for youngsters though. One thing to consider is, clearly you don't want to end up jabbing her in the mouth with a bit at a young age by mistake, but if she goes hysterical, would you rather have a bit to control her or risk her getting lose and running amok round the showground? Last year for my yearling i bitted her and she really didn't mind it at all and i didn't need to use it to control her either!

bye!

You would not show a yearling with a bit unless it was a colt. So no there is no need to bit.

You can get what is called a filly slip (not a foal slip) which is an in hand bridle without the bits to attach a bit too.

Good luck
