Just wondering for those that show in hand … do you wear your normal riding hat or do you wear a trilby? I’ve just seen a really really really nice show jacket on ebay .. (tried to resist but oops, pressed buy now by accident) and also seen a really nice trilby for sale BUT I don’t want to look silly – what do you wear?

Classes will include best condition, ex racehorse, sport horse, in hand showing

xx

Personally I prefer a riding hat, but I bought a cheap-but-smart velvet one and cut the straps off for in-hand showing. Given the number of in-hand horses that leap about and wave their legs in the air, I'd rather be wearing a riding hat for that reason anyway, but I prefer the look to a trilby. I show youngstock and coloureds in-hand.

I think it depends what you are showing. Your safety must come first so if there is the slightest possibility of feet flying, wear a riding hat. I always do. but I must admit I like the look of a trilby.

I prefer the look of trilby but am very aware that locally a woman died a few years ago when showing a youngster in hand which reared and caught her head with its hoof.

I went to our local 2nd hand horsey shop to find an old riding hat that I could cut the harness off and found a Patey which I bought for £5!!!

I prefer trilbys but I show shetlands inhand. When I show my exracers I wear my hard hat as it is in some exracer rules. I am on the lookout to getting a beagler though.

The choice is yours so long as it is smart and compliments the outfit.

I prefer a hat, but do have a trilby! Both go well with tweed that you have to wear so personal pref.

I show youngsters and a stallion so I opt for a hat every time
