I'm fifteen & showing traditional coloured cobs in hand in wales this summer & possibly later on this year at the royal welsh winter fair. i've got a blue tweed jacket & a navy tie, is this the end of the world? i've been told its better to wear green or brown tweed, but will i be so out of place if i wear blue tweed? i can't really afford to get another nice jacket but if it really is necessary i guess i'll have to.
also, last time i showed in hand i was thirteen & i wore cream jods, joddie boots & jod clips. i've got a pair of gaiters now, but not actual trousers like i've seen people wear. i'm pretty sure the first horse i'm showing (this coming saturday) is white legged, so could i wear a pair of black school trousers? if yes, what shoes?
& finally, hat? i don't have a beagler or, for that matter, even a velvet hat; i ride in a jockey skull usually. would i be better leaving the hat & just pulling my hair back or wearing the hat with a smart hatsilk? i don't want to look an idiot xD

& if you've got some tips on how to get legs white again (brown after being in the field for half a year!) they would also be much appreciated xD thankss.

Well I'm not too hot on showing but I'll try too help!

I think if its local level your tweed will be fine! yes if its a white legged horse black school trousers would be fine wear your joddy boots with them!

White legs back to white - you want to get a whitening shampoo, you can actually but human ones (from boots etc aswell as horse ones) wash them a once or twice this week (even with plain shampoo) then with the whitening one on sat before the show!

Good luck

thanks hellspells [:
& thanks kildalton, im going to get some new gloves this week. cream, am i right? & do they have to be leather or whatever?

No brown gloves with a brown show cane!
You should really wear a hat, the smarter (plain velvet) silk you can get the better. This will be fine at local level, if the royal welsh show is higher standard than local (which I am guessing yes) ,then I would wear a flat cap or something similar.

The blue tweed is fine at local level, if again the royal welsh is higher standard then green would allow you to fit in better.... shires do a green tweed jacket for about £35!!! (can you tell im a cheap skate!

) or EBAY!!!!!!

Black trousers are perfect against a white legged horse, however if the horse is black, brown trousers might be better...... but black will be great either way!

I wear my jodpur boots as they are easy to run like a nutter in and are comfortable and I feel safe wearing them in case my horse has a bit of a spaz in hand!

plus they are smart black boots! If you dont have smart joddy boots, then white trainers are often used.

Whitenning the legs.......... START WASHING NOW!

Use whitening shampoo, also purple shampoo (often used for black horses) is GREAT! it says: makes black horses black! but it also makes white horses SUPER WHITE!!!!!

then for show day, CHALK LOTS OF CHALK!!!!!!!!! in the morning before going, add some chalk to a bit of water to make a paste, rub it into the legs, then leave it to dry (maybe in the trailer as you travel or something) then rinse/scrub it all out, it removes dirt and leaves a shiny white appearance!

and chalking and then brushing out throughout the day as required (dry chalk)

GOod luck!
