... hurricanes hardly ever happen.

But we did have a tornado yesterday afternoon. In less than a minute it tore through the garden, ripped an Oak tree in half, demolished a conservatory, lifted a field shelter clean into the air and scared the c*** out of the lot of us.

no injuries I hope?
There's a corner of a static caravan which isn't looking too happy... it had an argument with part of the oak as it came down. The conservatory will have to be totally rebuilt, and the furniture that was in it has spent the night getting soaked. Rabbits had been moved just minutes before from the spot where the oak fell, so that was close, and the roof of the duck house flew off... not that they care about getting wet.

The clear up will take weeks, but it could have been much worse.

Where was this?

I was up at the yard nr Hertford. I thought the barn was going to take off.

Lost all power in the area, trees down and took a couple of retracing our steps for someone to drop me at the station.

Finished all the horses in the dark holding torches for each other.

I've never heard a wind like it.

Not the same one then.

It was very odd tbough, felt like being in the middle of something. Intense wind and lightning coming down around us. Luckily the trees around the yard stayed up though lots down in fields. Manege fence is down.

As well as trees down, the lanes were covered in this carpet of leaves and twigs.

Everyone seems to have power back tbis morning but there's still some roads flooded and blocked.

We’re just the other side of Andover, and we didn’t have anything like that. Hope you’re all ok!
It was sufficiently localised that our neighbour across the track watched it tear through the garden. His place was unaffected. He came running over to check on us. He could see it 'from the outside' as it were, and told us it was a tornado.
It passed quickly, but via next door's paddock where it took out their field shelter.

I remember a tornado going through back when we were farming and living in a caravan One minute the wind was hammering on one side of the van and the next it had whipped round and hit us on the other side. A few minutes later a fire engine shot past on blue lights. Needless to say we followed and found that the next village along, only a tiny one, had been hit. Roofs ripped off, the end of a big stone barn demolished, a tin roofed shed had lost its tins and they were stuck in the ground on their corners, sticking up like ice cream wafers. One shed had just collapsed and killed the pigs that were in it. Never seen anything like it before or since.

Yes,
I'm hearing reports of something similar down near Marwell too.
two different sets of wooden stables scattered across the roads, some had ponies inside but they walked away with only scratches and very shaken up :( we are very close but luckily we have an american barn that's quite substantially built although ponies were out at the time.

I'm in Hatfield and it was also like a tornado all our power went down and didn't come back on until lunchtime today, its on a temporary generator while they fix the cables.
