Would love to be able to hack Em out just the two of us, but im struggling to get past the fretting  she doesnt do anything reckless i.e. rearing, bucking etc, we just have a bit of a debate over steering away from the yard as she can nap, but she will only ever walk back home if she wins.

We've been working really hard and she's going really well so think it's time to try her out her own more often and start getting further away from the yard, but apart from me singing The Wombles song to her when i feel either of us have a bit of a wobble what else can help?

Mince pies for all who read this far :)

Could you maybe lead her in hand out of the yard then after a few minutes hop on, and ride her back? Don't go far to start but go slightly further everyday. Then start mounting before you turn back so within a few weeks you'll be walking 2 minutes and riding the rest of the way before mounting in the yard for a long hack!

This is what I'm doing with mine at the moment. Only done it 3 times so far, so at the early stages but I'm hopeful that this method will work :D

I can only tell you how I got mine to do it - hopefully it gives you an idea/inspiration for yours...

I led him in hand around a short route...then did that short route with someone else - can be on foot or rider....then did as above Timiton said walk out and ride back :)

I had to really calm myself down as well as I would make it worse as at some points I would go out shaking!

He ended up being a lone ranger hacking around Cheshire countryside at the end of the buckle in the end :D

Best advice I got was to take baby steps and your time then you are both happy therefore suceeding and just build it!

Goodluck - Keep us updated!

what a great idea! thank you both:)

had thought of riding her further and further away each time but as the shortest circle route is about 2 miles long i didnt want to get her into the habit of turning round towards home whilst im aboard, but your idea sounds ideal, i will def be trying it asap, thanks again!

My mum once said to me many years ago that if you are not feeling confident or brave then you need to act it and slowly but surely the more you 'act' it the more you will become it.

Sound slike the horse is willing so about time you started at least acting up for it :p

Good luck and remember ... act it first ... the rest will follow :D
