Agreed with the farrier to remove shoes from my 35 year old today.

So now I can join the barefoot cult :D :D :D

I will be able to comment on all the barefoot threads and feel like I really belong to something.

Do you think I will get kicked out if they find out my other two are still shod.

On a serious note, I hope the old boy likes it, he has had shoes for at least 30 years.

I know I'm really sad but I almost shed a tear and I have saved his last set of shoes, so he is now officially retired I wont even take him round the yard in a headcollar bareback.

Took shoes off of my 32 year old 2 months ago, he had worn shoes for 28 years so was a gamble. He is doing really well, still in light work on the arena and moving better than ever.
I also have some shod, although one is trying barefoot behind for the winter, again seems fine.:D

Thank you.

Great to hear that another oldie adjusted to going without shoes.

I felt quite cruel putting him out this morning. He was giving me some strange looks walking over the concrete. Luckily once he got onto the muddy gateway he didn't bother.

I became a member by accident:D None of mine have any shoes on - one never has had any shoes on, ever.

I don't even think about the fact they don't wear shoes....until hacking with friends with shod horses....who were slip-sliding all over the road and tripping over every tree-root in the woods.

Although, to be fair- my previous horse had totally crap feet and needed NB shoes so I'm not averse to whatever is needed.

Helps that my farrier is ace and my horses have great hooves though.

Welcome aboard.;)

PS.....I think you'll find its actually the Barefoot Taliban:D
