Hello, probably no correct answer but this year is the first year I will have my pony at home ( actually first year I have this pony at all so no past experience of him ). I am trying to plan when to start bringing him in overnight. He will be up on a small fenced yard with access to his stable so not completely shut in. When out he is on his own in the field ( with sheep ) and horses next door. What do people tend to do with fireworks nights ? I am very rural but some big houses near by do quite big private displays and we are in a valley so get some what surrounded by them ! A lot of the surrounding villages have bonfire societies ( sussex tradition ) so it goes on for weeks. Thanks for any suggestions.

Mine are out all over fireworks season, usually in a paddock with a good view of everything around in daytime & the one with best surface to hold up to feet drumming about if they do get spooked.

I'd rather they had a scoot about than got stressed being shut in & unable to see what might be going on, this is regardless of weather.

If there has been any changes of home-ownership since last year, I also pop round & if they are not in, I drop a courtesy card through the letterbox (we have some 'big' houses nearby) to ask politely if they could let me know in advance of any firework parties they might be having, so I can 'make sure my livestock are best placed' to be safe that evening. This is a double edged visit - I get to find out about the new people if we havent yet met :)

Mine all live out 24/7/365 so they stay out in all the time. My crowd don't pay the slightest bit of attention to fireworks or lightning storms.

I'd personally not keep my horses locked in a structure which could burn if there's fireworks being set off close by.

Planning on keeping mine out (like always) so they can run around like idiots if they need to. Think they feel better for having a run...can then get back to eating hopefully.

Mine has been out for the past 4 or 5 years, as our old yard never used to start bringing in at night until after bonfire night. There were never any problems, although before that she used to be in at night (a good 6 years or so with me) and we never had any trouble then either. So maybe I just have a very calm horse :D
This year she will stay out as we've moved and she now lives out all year round. In fact, I might camp out in her field to watch the fireworks as she is up on a hilltop with views all the way out to Manchester and Stockport, so if it's a clear night the view of the fireworks should be amazing!!

Good. I had though out would be better but on my previous livery yards they were all kept in ( not that my old boy batted an eyelid anyway !). Another joy of being able to do my own thing !

I always think it's better for them to be out in the open with less to injure themselves with. I remember at Windsor in 2007 when they still did the massive firework display some of the horses were absolute loons in the stables, but I would put it down to that they couldn't see where the noise was coming from..

Ooooh new horse, hadn't thought about this :o We keep in every night and are pretty rural so if the neighbours don't have sheep in the field they have horses ... Not sure how many fireworks will be going off local but assuming it will be on the quieter side! I might just drug him! ;)

Mine come in for bonfire night week and stay in overnight thereafter for winter. We are a good distance from any neighbours homes so don't have to worry about fireworks going awry! Mine don't blip in the slightest I go down and check on them regularly but they have always either been munching or dozing! With a horse that was easily upset however I would have to consider whether they were better in or out.

Out - mine or right next door to a university campus/rugby ground so fireworks everywhere. More for the fact they can hoon about if frightened and at least if my stables go up in flames they won't go up with them.

LOL ant you are so funny! he will be FINE! and not like any fireworks around here anyway silly moo ;P

( your loving YO )

I've brought mine in for the week as I know the surrounding area has a lot of displays planned. Would much rather they were out to just get used to it, but after they escaped from the field and onto the road a few months ago during some nearby pheasant shooting I just don't want to risk it :(

Having stressed about it, mine doesn't appear to have noticed the large bangs and flashes other than quite enjoying them !!

Mine stay as normal - the outies are out and M comes in!! None of my lot take any notice at all, I think they are used to it as we have organised displays around us on a regular basis throughout the year.

The annual village fireworks display and bonfire is held a field away from my horses' field. Denys spent most of this afternoon with his eyes on stalks watching people setting up in the field, so I wouldn't like to risk it leaving him out right next door to a massive display. It's well advertised, so we take them both over the hill to a nearby yard for the night. Denys has a stable with a view tonight as he will have been able to spend the evening watching the display from a safe distance!
For all the garden fireworks, including on the fifth, they will be out (unless any of our neighbours gave us warning that they wanted to set some off in their garden, in which case we'd move them again).
