A happy fluffy post from me :D Just wanted to say how much I value having a good instructor :)

Spider and I have been having some 'issues' with canter - he gets unbalanced going into canter and ends up disunited, bunny hopping and trying to run away. My dressage instructor has been away for a few weeks but is now back, so I had her school him yesterday and give me a lesson this morning, and the difference is amazing! Beautiful, calm and collected transitions :) Clearly there's still work to be done and will have to keep working at it, but I'm so pleased with his and my progress! We'd have been puzzling over that one for ages on our own and would probably have ended in tears, whereas some professional input and we're well on our way to being sorted and I'm feeling much more positive about it.

Hurrah :D

My instructor is ace too! She has helped me find my latest horse and although I'm not the bravest jumper, and my mare is only 5 she has gotten us going so well and jumping things I wouldn't have dreamt doing on my last horse :-)

The good ones that really work for you and your horse are like gold dust imo and worth keeping hold by all means possible! I bribe mine with chocolate (as well as normal payment!), since she doesn't do it for a living and only teaches the people she likes!

I am a novice rider, I was a lot more novicey 18 months ago when I aquired my little hairy unbacked driving horse and set about trying to make him a riding horse. She's taught me to ride him from the 5th time he was sat on and he's a lovely little guy now! We do a bit of allsorts, and place more often than not at low level local stuff.

Yes, horse would be a lot further on in his eductation if someone with more experience had had him, but when my instructor can get on him and do a passable traver (a momevement I don't even know how to ride!), and a tiny 11 year old can pop him around a 2'3 course and hack him out I've not done a bad job with him. :) My instuctor has only sat on him 3 or 4 times and really is teaching me to 'school' and not just 'ride'. Some of the knowledge I have I am not good enough to put into practice, but her tuition has been priceless and I am so glad for me and little hairy beast that we have her!
