Well can anyone tell me roughly how much this would be? Because that's what I have at the moment....having seen the 2 acre pic, I suspect it may be more than 2/3 of an acre, which is what I had thought it was.....

In an area thats pretty much a square you should make about 100 paces across the diagonal.

Other than that you will need a tape measure to work out how many square metres you have then convert that back into acres.

And yes it IS correct to masure land in acres....its one of the only things that havent been forced into metric!

if you tell me how to post a photo, I can show an arial view of and acre and a half with a sand school for perspective if that helps.

You need to open an account with www.photobucket.com and upload it onto there, then paste the IMG address into the Reply box here!

Thanks MizElz. I hope this worked. our site is a 1/3 acre, so I would estimate the whole green bit to be just over 1.5 acres. Hope that helps.

to give some perspective The sand school on the left is a 20x40m. If it also helps the house with the green roof is built in the 1/3 acre paddock where the pony lived happily (it was stabled at night though)

An acre is 4840 square yards

[/ QUOTE ]

It's easy to calculate if the area is roughly equal in sides (so a square or a rectangle).

A 'square' acre is 70 yards x 70 yards. If it's more rectangular, measure one long side and one short side - multiply one by the other to get square yards and divide by 4840.

Right i measured my field ( sad i know! ) its 93 yards by 52.5 yards so by JanetGeorge's calculatuions that makes 1 acre spot on!!!!

So i have one acre for two minis. Its divided into three at the moment and 1/3 of it i havent used and wont till next winter now. Here is a pic of 2/3 of it so by my calculations this should be 2/3 of an acre!!! ( the field to the back of the electric fence )

So MisElz is your field similar to this size or bigger??? Looking at this at home i would say it is plenty big enough for a horse to have a baz around in. I dont think it will sustain any grass after a while because mine is pretty shot at at the moment having had two minis on it, and they are hardly any weight at all, but thats the way i like it!!

1 fotball pitch is 1 hectare which is 2.4 acres

I understood a football pitch to be approx. 58000 square feet, and an acre to be 43560 square feet.

Stinkbomb - thanks a lot for that!

I would say my current paddock - fenced with tape - is possibly even a little bit bigger than yours; I suspect when they fence it and make it square, not rounded, it will be almost exactly the same size! So I guess 2/3 of an acre is about right - and, as you say, is plenty big enough for a horse to muck around in!
