Feel that I've caused a bit of the conflict in here recently, but I really think most people agree on the following:

1) Have horse looking clean and smart
2) Wear whatever you have that's nearest to hunt gear, but no one really cares if it's not quite right
3) Respect the land you hunt over
4) Be polite and friendly
5) Understand hunting etiquette RE hounds, hunt staff etc.

Sorry to gatecrash, but please could I add two things...

6) Find the Secretary at the meet asap...

7) Be nice to him/her....we're volunteers too! And please don't ring late at night, most of us have jobs and families as well as a Hunt to look after :-D

Thankies!

Can I add:

Get involved with activities off the hunting field. There is a hell of a lot going on in most hunts and you can have wonderful fun getting stuck into jump building, organising, attending or helping at social events and being part of the team. There are people who purely hunt and are never seen at these social gatherings, which I feel is a real shame.

After what I said above, just thought I'd add my experience from Saturday....

me "good morning, are you paying cap today"

small PC age child, about 10 "yes, my mummy has my money, she's over there in the blue car."

Adult next to small child "why, who the f**k are you? I'm not paying, it should be free, it's only a hack round a field"

I was so shocked, I was lost for words!! Some people.....

What a delightful character. It makes me glad that we have wonderful people like Tractor willing to take on the thankless task of secretary to a pack of hounds.

Do people truly think that hounds live on fresh air and that they should be able to gallop around private land free of charge...

Sadly, I guess that some people don't think at all! The role of Secretary really is a thankless one, but so important and I do hope that those who perform this role realise just how grateful most of us are?!

you have to be joking- how rude!! this person should have been reported to the hunt staff, master whomever- and sent home!! not doing the cause any good whatsoever!! that certainly wouldn't have happened with us, everyone is more than generous!!
