After reading in H&H today about the lady's horse who ended up with Jamie Gray,
I felt I had a need to write this. This is a longshot, as I don't know if the girl still is involved with horses, or indeed comes on these boards, but I felt I had to try.
Back in 2002, I advertised for a companion for my cob, Murphy. I got a reply from a girl who had a retired racehorse called "Bob". He was then 20 yrs old. She was moving to London, and needed to find a home for Bob fairly quickly. Anyway to cut a long story short, Bob came to stay with me and Murphy, and I would just like her to know, if she should happen on this, Bob is still alive and well and living the life of riley. He's 26 now, completely retired. He is regularly wormed, has his teeth checked twice a year, has his feet regularly trimmed by a lovely farrier, and is loved beyond belief. He can still act like a 2 yr old, but is the most loving horse. I love him dearly, and he will be with me until the end of his days. He gets regular turnout, wrapped up well from the cold, and on bad days he stays in , warm and snug. He looks really well, and I hope he'll be with me for a while yet, God willing.
Like I say, its just a longshot. I don't have any contact for her, and all I can remember that her name was Beth. So, Beth, if you read this, rest assured Bob will NEVER end up like those poor unfortunates of Spindles Farm. Sorry this is so long, but I just want to try.

Thats so thoughtfull. I hope she sees it. Someone warned me years ago that lots of horses that go on loan become 'disapeared' and over the years I've read news articles about people ending up in court for making a habit out of acquiring people's horses and selling them on illegally. Then there are the individuals that do it on a smaller scale or with just one horse. Its terrible that this happens so much

Maybe you should send this in a letter to H&H - given these recent events, they might print it!

As someone whos horse went as a companion on a permanent loan 4 years ago this september and has since vanished; i think this is a lovely lovely attempt to locate his old owner.

Thats really thoughtful of you. Im currently going through hell trying to locate my old mare and the most awful things are going through my mind. Ive no idea if shes dead or alive and id had her since she was a baby.

Oh Tierra, how I feel for you. It must be dreadful, not knowing what has happened to your horse. I know how I would be if it were me. I hope , with all my heart, you find her. It must be heartbreaking. I just want her to know he is alive and well, and loved and cared for.

What a lovely thread. I really hope that Bob's old owner does find this thread or hear the news somehow. It will give her great peace of mind I am sure.

And Tierra, can only say how sorry I am to hear of your predicament. I REALLY hope that your mare is located and is safe and well.

Thankyou :*(

I know its my own fault for letting her go in the first place but shes been lame for a long time and i thought she'd prefer a home where she could live out in summer rather than the 5 hours a day i could give her :*(

Im now worried sick about her.

Theres pictures on my blog below if anyone wants to take a look

ETS shes the second horse down, called Bliss :*(

Thank you all for your kind comments.
Brighteyes, I have to admit I am disappointed she never kept in touch, as I did say at the time she was to visit whenever she wished, she would be always welcome. But I will give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe it would be too hard for her to keep seeing him, I don't know.
Anyway, hopefully she will see this, and even if she doesn't want to get in touch, I will understand, and she will know he is still alive and well.

We took on a lady's horse on loan as she was going to put him down due to not having anywhere to keep him. We'd already had him for a few months [revioously as a loan home he was at did not look after him and starved him (as he was too lively) and he has horrendous rainscald. Afetr a summer with us he was gleaming (he was 19), he then went on loan again but it did not work out and we heard he was going to be out down so we took him on.

He is now 24 and has 12 acres and 3 friends and is as fit as ever, he's an ex-racehorse and is a lively ride but only in that once he's galloped he jogs! He's totally boomproof and i can't believe now that we extended his life by 5 years! i couldn't put a healthy horse down.

I think most people that take on permanent loans do just that and it's a shame there's a few who do sell on an animal that is not theirs. Hope you find your mare, it's funny how things do work out!
