Why is that when it comes down to Shetland ponies the H&H reporters can never get it right? In this weeks H&H the showing report from Home Counties states that Blackator Rhonda is an Exmoor. Yes she is bay but Shetlands are allowed to be and she is one of the most prolific ridden and in-hand Shetland ponies of recent years! She is forever in the H&H and various other mags. She's been to HOYS and Olympia numerous times and claimed the Shetland BOB at Olympia too! Is it too much to ask that the reporters actually get our native breeds right?!?

And whilst on the subject of reporting on Shetlands why is it such a "Surprise" for a Shetland to win the overall supreme M&M at Royal Windsor? Schivas Kerry is an absolutely cracking example of her breed, moves straight, has bone, a neat head, a good depth of body and a nice length of rein. Why shouldn't a Shetland get a look in over the other native breeds? I know they have the stereotype of being naughty little so and so's, and trust me I more than agree with that at times! But in the showring type, conformation, movement and sparkle is what counts. Not what breed it is!

H&H could I please suggest that you put an ammendment in your next issue stating the Rhonda is in fact a bay Shetland and not an Exmoor.

Yes, you can get goold Shetlands. But even a lot of the judges in mixed M&Ms aren't always sure what they're looking at.

Speaking of naughty Shetlands (sorry to diversify), friends with a coloured stud bought a 2-yr-old coloured Shetland colt some years ago as the owner/breeder had lost her money/grazing and they were all going to the sales. He wasn't impressed when he was bathed the day before his first show (in-hand, of course) and, while being lead back to his box, the cheeky boy just plopped down in one of the puddles on the yard. The owner took him straight back to the wash box and this time, did not go near any puddles! (Colt was broken to harness, used as a teaser and then they bought some Shetland mares, but now he's gone on to a Shetland breeder and the mares were sold.)

I adore my Shetties to peices and am sure they are only still alive because I keep them as busy as possible! They are some of the brightest ponies I have ever had and are always getting into mischief (more so when their little rider encourages them!). I really think they get alot of bad press because they are not used and are not considered a "pretty" breed such as the welshies. Mine are gorgeous and I am pleased to hear that one has done so very well even if it has been reported incorrectly!

I agree they need to amend and apologise for the mistake.

I own a shetland, however I admit that I did have what I see seems to be the standard view of shetlands. That they are funny looking normal ponies with legs to short for their bodies and a kick ass attitude, but hard to deal with.
I do think they are funny wee beasties - I still do not understand them, haha, they are not like any other pony!!
Mine has a dislike for anyone over 14(it does seem to be age specific!).
And she is a pure bred Shetland from Shetland! Maybe thats why she has all the attitude...............she now has a new wee rider, so hopefully will have fun doing some work now.

This is her. She is kinda funny looking. haha.

I've just seen this. She's possibly the most famous shetland in the country! On the showing circuit anyway. Will Comberton Clancy be a section D in next week's issue?!

It isn't just Shetlands- my mare was out in a small paddock while we waited for a professional photographer to arrive. He phoned to say he was running late - good thing as at that very moment my horse was upside down in the mud and really grinding it in :)
