Why oh why, when our bitch has been made a fabulous new whelping box that she has loved since the day she set eyes on it and slept in it every night for the past four weeks, does she think the kindling box in the leaky wood shed is a good place to give birth?

Widget always used to have hers under the bush in the garden in spite of a tailor made bed ready and waiting that she loved; used to have to let her have a couple then take them into the box where she'd happily have the others; was just something she had to do. Natural instinct is a great thing, don't knock it.

Well she has now thankfully returned to the whelping box, having decided that kindling makes a somewhat uncomfortable bed! She is in first stage labour so will be quite a while I guess.

Thanks. Three years ago she had nine! But she only has six good teats so I have to help her with the feeding. I could do with it drying up so I can get the horses out 24/7.

Pyrenean mountain dogs. Poor girl has had six so far. It has been a really slow process and I'd forgotten how stressful it is. Never again!

Lovely. It is just so good I don't have time for a pup or I'd be sending pms to arrange buying one. They're what I grew up with & I'd love another. Please post pics tho!

Sod being in your house when that lot find both their feet and their voices!:D

Yeah lol. She is an outdoor dog as is her mate. Trouble is, even if I get to bed in the next hour or so, I will be kept awake by him howling due to being separated from her in a stable he's not used to being in :(.

Sadly, her seventh has been stillborn. I think she was in the birth sack too long. I tried to revive her but had no luck. She was so perfect too :(.

Well stayed up until 3 am. Back up again at 6.30. I'm knackered. So in the end she had seven puppies, but the last one died during the birth. I really don't know what happened as she wasn't straining for long. She took a minute to get the sack off (wouldn't let me tear it) but I have revived pups that have been really stuck for 20 minutes or more before. She was absolutely perfect and hadn't been dead long. Such a shame. Makes me really sad and I don't know what to do with her. Will probably bury her somewhere nice.

Permanently stuck to the bitch at this age. You get used to just seeing their bottoms!

Gorgeous - and massive!!!!

Thanks. This litter is smaller than her last and so are the puppies. But yes, they are massive compared to most breeds. Some will be buff and white like Mum, and the others will be grey and white like Dad. Dad is stunning. I will have to get some photos of him on here later.

So, so gorgeous. You have no idea how much I wish I could have one. They are just so adorable.

I love their fat little chubby legs and feet. They really are the worlds most adorable puppies. Huge chubby balls of fluff when they start tottering around. They get really heavy by the time they leave for new homes. Last time I strained my wrists lifting them over the barrier to their run every time one escaped. A higher gate is needed this time!

I like their fat little legs too & fat little fluffy round heads. They're so cute so you don't mind when they almost floor you colliding with your legs. It's so sweet when they can't co-ordinate their fat little selves, & always loved their huge pads.

Congrats (but sorry about the one you lost), you really have to update us with pictures, I can't wait to see these balls of fluff start to grow.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, will keep updating with photos. I have managed to move her now into a quiet stable with a mesh gate, that will become the puppie's playpen. They will also get the full run of the enclosed yard whenever the horses are not going in and out. When she had a litter 3 years ago there was always one that would hide somewhere (always the same pup) and we would be looking for him for ages. We always found him asleep behind a feed bin or in a dark corner. It's funny how they develop their characters so early on. You had the ones that played rough and the ones that preferred a cuddle, and one that was always dirty! He was known as 'Mucky Pup' before his new owners called him Frank.

oooo mum looks lovely as do the little puppy bums :)

Definitely need a weekly puppy fix/update now that Murphys Minders little bundles of fluff have gone away to their new homes :(

I'm glad she decided the whelping box was the place to be in the end. She looks very contented with her babies. What sort of weight are they at birth, they look a fair size.
orbie, you won't totally escape puppy updates, still have two of the little darlings here.;)

They are around 3-400g

Yes they are extremely scrumptious!

They are lovely, congrats :)

Thanks. My main problem is their Dad now. I moved Mum with her pups out of the area where they normally sleep so that Dad could sleep there as he barked all night when I left him out (with a stable for shelter) and Mum won't let him in with her, due to the pups. But I shut him in their usual place last night and where he is usually very content, but he howled all night and when I got up had destroyed absolutely everything that was chewable in there. Obviously doesn't like being on his own, poor lad. He's normally so calm and docile. Never known him like this. Trouble is, he has never been in a house and pees on everything he can if he gets in somewhere new. Plus our two indoor jack russells would go mental. So it's a problem. The last litter she had three years ago was by the dog that we lost to cancer, and he was far more self assured and didn't fret when separated from our bitch. :( He's happy as larry again now that he is out and has the free run of the yard, plus access to the bitch, even if she DOES tell him to 'get lost' if he dare poke his nose in.

Poor lad, lost his girlfriend, hopefully now he has seen her he may be more settled tonight.
Those weights surprise me, I thought they would be bigger than that, they must really pile on the pounds as they grow.:D
