Very recently my 3 y/o wb sherry, decided it would be fun to jump over the electric fence surrounding her paddock, clearing it on CCTV footage, then racing towards a barbed wire fence, not quite clearing it ... I never new she could jump anywhere near that hight yet. She managed to tear the skin on her hock, luckily not too badly. But I'm a bit annoyed because I didn't even know that peace of barbed wire fencing existed on my property 🙄🙈.
Sorry for venting, but I find it a bit funny too 😅

We had a youngster do this years ago. He caught the heel bulb on a back leg, landed and fell. He did a fair bit of damage to himself. Owner was distraught as had only owned him a couple of weeks adn had not sorted insurance. She was contemplating PTS. We helped her fix him up. He was stabled for a long time as had a block on his foot and bandaged to the hock to help stop the wound keep opening when he walked. We helped her safe costs by buying the dressings etc online and alternated days with the vet for dressing changes. He wasn't handled when she got him and was very novice so didn't really know what she was doing. In the end she signed him over to us and we rehomed him to a trekking centre, but it could easily have turned out very differently.

Hope your pony recovers quickly.

A friends horse cleared a metal gate and ended up grazing the verge next to a busy road. She never found out why, but he was prone to jumping into the rested fields after that.

I've seen a horse clear a four foot electric gateway in a heavy turnout complete with hood from a deep muddy take off.

A former y.o had a horse who jumped over 2 metal five bar gates, on an unrelated distance also in a heavy rug.

But just because horses can do that has no bearing on whether they can jump a big track of related distances out competing as the two are not similar at all.

Glad she is okay though.

My NF mare could jump any gate! Luckily she didn't make a habit of this but given good reason (better grass and nicer friends!) she could do it from a standstill. I saw her once grazing in the wrong field, she put up her head on hearing me and just hopped right back into her own field as if to say, "that wasn't me"! She had a bit of a character.
One day when I was away the lady who owned th farm we were on caught her and my other pony to give her grandchildren a little ride. she went inside for a moment, NF pony not there when she came back, had untied herself and gone back to the field jumping a high metal gate with head collar and rope trailing.

Hussy of a mare would go fence hopping when in season if thought a stallion (or colty gelding) any where near. Had got herself in foal as a 3yr old before I bought herself by jumping 2 gates to get to a colt, they thought nothing had happened.

Sooo .. in various posts you've got a 3 year old warmblood who's started jumping, a 17 year old cob who you've hardly ridden, I think there might have been a 24 year old in there as well, plus you're looking for first ponies for your kids. You apparently had a confidence knock several years ago when out hacking, but you've asked about riding lessons as an adult and also said you've not been an equestrian long. What's real and what's fantasy? 🤷‍♀️

I have various horses, and I had a lot of time off horses (aka having my kids) so that's what I meant as 'new equestrian' and I never said that I hadn't ridden my cob much? Basically I'm an equestrian, I had a lot of time off having kids, and I have over 5 horses.

Hope that clears the confusion up for you Xx

My 13.1 first pony, a Fell, would stand behind a five bar gate in his field then jump it from a standstill when he saw me go in the feedroom to get his tea.

Ok, fair enough.......

Just to get you up to speed, Welsh section D's exceed 13.2hh and go right up to +/-16hh, average is around 15hh, certainly not ever known as lead rein or 1st ridden animals.
I have, that was the one I had a long time ago. She was a lovely mare, I bought her to bring on a bit, as previously she'd only walked and trotted older kids round a school.
