The tb I have at the moment is doing some lunge work, and he was lunged over a pole the first day I had him. I think not making things a big deal is key to increasing confidence in horses. He gets walked over random things in the field - the odd log at a trot in hand even - I dont think there is anything wrong with it. I have even taken him to the edge of the stream for a pick of grass. Same TB had someone legged up on him after a year of not being ridden, as soon as I knew he was ok she was led up the bridlepath with me leading her (he was good as gold)

The youngsters get loaded on the lorry, engine started, lorry pulled forward, and off loaded. I just dont think about it as much as I should probably, but seem to get on!

I also squirt them with hoses, fly spray, etc, without thinking about what they might do.

How do you increase confidence in young horses? I think it is key not to pussyfoot around and just get on and do, it works for me in lots of ways. What do you guys do?

I agree, be matter of fact and do not pussy foot around. If you pussy foot around, they will suspect they have something to be frightened of.

I have not pussyfooted around my horse and he is as good as gold, calm and confident.

Its good for young horses to experience lots of different things and to learn not to fear new ones.
