I am welling up with tears at this sad sad news-

We witnessed the whole incident from our trade stand on Wednesday at Staffs County, and i am devastated that from the horredous fall Caroline is now paralysed from the neck down and will not walk again.

During the hack championship Carolines lovely novice hack was severly spooked by an explosion from an ice cream van parked right next to the main ring, her horse reared and fell over backwards on top of Caroline. The championship class was halted immediately, and she was eventually airlifted to hospital.

My thoughts are with Caroline, her young family, her mum and sister at this time.

I used to compete up against Caroline and her sister Suzanne many years ago at BSPS, and i cant tell you how shocked I am at this utter tragedy.

God bless and I hope and pray the prognosis will turn out better than they say.

I believe that after the op she had yesterday, Caroline will be permanently paralysed from the waist down. I understand that after her stay in hospital she will be moved to a spinal rehabilitation centre for around 9 months before being allowed to return home.

She has a fantastic and close knit family who will pull together and support her through this devastating time. It could have happened to any one of us - I pray that she and her family are able to continue showing such dignity and strength of character as they have shown so far - and I have no doubt that they will. Hugs and a massive amount of respect to all of them.

I was exactly thinking that - life is so fragile.

Showing is "allegedly" one of the "safer" equine disciplines, that's now 2 recent shows I have witnessed the air ambulance being requested.

My daughter came off in a show ring - horse just lost the plot momentarily. Bucks and a massive cat leap and she was off. Needed a new hat. Admittedly it was the first time the Paramedic had been called to the Show Ring, but as said, it's Life, it's fragile, and anything can happen even in what we think is a safe (or comparatively safe) environment.
