I'm trying to commission the building of an indoor school. As long as the local council's planning dept. agree, the arena will be 60x30. I am currently in discussion with a well known specialist construction company and they advise that my eaves height should be 4m, giving an apex height of 8m. I want to use the school for jumping and hope to hold clinics in there and I really don't think 4m at the eaves is high enough (there arena will fill the building, there won't be a walkway around it) - I want 5m which will give an apex of 9m. The construction company think this is 'unusually large'. Does anyone have any advice / experience to offer? Thank you for any thoughts.

I'd go as high as you can - 5m sounds better to me. I got carted off in an ambulance once, after a horse reared underneath one of the beams in an indoor school and tortoised me. I always have a good look at how low the beams come before I ride in an indoor now!
