Can anyone recommend one and how much do they usually charge? I realise that the feed companies give free advice but I have a very old boy and I am giving him a full diet overhaul and would like to be able to draw on the full spectrum of feeds available to him and am happy to pay for it providing it's not a fortune!

We spent ages looking for an independent nutritionist but unfortunatly they are few and far between as most are affiliated with feed companies.

Instead I seeked advice off of someone very knowledgable who is an A test examiner and has many other qualifications and I feel she gave me just as good advice as a nutritionist could have given :)

Thanks kokopelli. I don't know many people with quals like that, mostly just riders rather than professionals.

Walrus - do you have any idea how much Clare charges? I found her website and she looks tiptop, but thought it was worth checking on the font of all knowledge (HHO) first (and hey presto her name came up!!) :D

I paid £35 and spoke to her on occasion after that too if that helps :D

Afraid I don't know how much she charges, I have met her through work (used to work in that area) and I know how nice and knowledgeable she is.

Thanks again SB and Walrus. £35 is within my budget!! I think i will call her tomorrow! Quite excited!! :D

Youre welcome :D

I spoke to her early on in the year regarding Jamins diet when she stopped eating hay etc.

Clare gave me a great report with instructions and recommendations. Although Jamin now manages hay, I stick to the same principles as the diet she suggested was simple and works brilliantly!

Clare even called me a few weeks after when I sent her an email in panic when the snow stopped feed deliveries and I couldnt get the feed I needed. She reassured me and we had a lovely chat for about an hour!

She also recommended/suggested some cheaper alternatives to named brands should I wish to cut costs due to the amount I was having to feed!

Her book is also brilliant and I highly recommend!

Hope all goes well. Its nice not to get conflicting advice which tends to confuse. Clare simplifies everything and it really makes sense.

Let me know how you get on x

Oh wow, she sounds fab. I am a student so really interesting about her advice on non-name brands etc, she's probably paid herself back in savings then!!! Anything that can be done to cut costs is always such a help.

Thanks again! :D

I have just googled the Nutrionist Society and it seems all you need to do to become a member is fill in the form and pay £75.
After completing Dr Kellons NRC course I can not see that a balanced diet can be decided on without a forage report to start from.
Just saying be careful that's all. A lot of people are not as qualified as you may think. :)
