Individual show for First Ridden

Hi All,

Heading to a low key show with Mini Me next wk, taking the stableisers off & letting her do the first ridden!

Now there is a small individual show, with the option to canter....

Any suggestion on what she should do ?

Need to get it practiced this week...

Personally would keep it very simple, maybe a figure of 8 or a circle so that they don't build up any speed?

Your generic first ridden show is - stand in front of judge. Walk away, turn and trot straight back towards the judge (the judge will move). Trot a circle of a figure of eight, canter the next circle, trot across the middle, canter on the other leg for a circle and as you get back to the middle trot a few strides until you are facing the judge again, walk 2-3 strides, stop, salute, walk back to line.

If your not overly confident of cantering then trot a figure of 8 and stop. If you want to do a little bit of canter but not the whole lot then trot a figure of eight and then canter a circle then stop.

The outside bit with the others is just walk and trot with a change of rein.

I would not try the canter circle, hard to do properly for even an adult. What ever rein the pony canters best on, on the second trot after the change of rein ask for canter and canter the long side, back to trot at the next corner , than walk back to the judge halt and salute.
By cantering along the long side it gives them a chance to get going and say if the pony won't canter just trot the long side. If its her first show the main thing is for her to get confidence, I'd leave cantering on both reins until she is confident that the pony will go on the correct canter lead on both reins.
What can throw them is if the Judge asks them to a set show and it confuses them, also if they do something wrong go straight to the next element and do not try again as they get so hung up on getting it right the show goes on too long.
Big smile will always increase their chances of better coloured rosette.
