hi
i have an indoor school that has a wood chip surface - i believe it was put down about 8 years ago and topped up about 4 years ago.

it needs some work doing to as it has started to break down and it is a little unstable - ie if cantering tight-ish circles the surface will move (down to membrane) and i have had a horse slip on it and totally lose their balance and topple over - which was not a nice experience.

has anyone any advice to improve the surface - at the moment i can not afford to have it taken out and replaced completely so need to look at something to get me through a couple of years.

thanks in advance for any suggestions

I'd ring up the manufacturers of the various surfaces and ask them. Shame you didn't go to Your Horse Live the other day there were a few surface people there you could have taken samples and chatted with them.

Wood chip will always break down, so maybe rubber added to it would be the solution to make it more stable and prevent movement but I'm no expert by any means and I'm only guessing.
