Looks like we may of been adopted by a ginger/white cat. He is a right character!!!! He came in to work as a stray, he's not chipped/no collar etc and was found in a warehouse in a poor way. All efforts are being made to see if he's got an owner but if not we'll have him.

He's an older boy and looks like he may have thyroid problems (having bloods done tomorrow) but if we do keep him he'll be an indoor cat.

I know I've asked before but what litter trays/litters do you use for your indoor cats as would like to keep smell down as much as poss :-)

little man as he's been named is currently on the bed grooming himself, we've only had him for an hour and a half :-))

Our cats aren't indoor cats as such, but the older two don''t go out much in winter. They have a covered litter tray as they throw the litter everywhere otherwise and are currently using Stovies wood pellets for litter cos that's what I use for the ponies and it's cheaper than the cat wood pellet litter :)

Our two indoor cats have their own en suite bathroom :)

They have a large litter tray with a lip that lives in the bath. It's easier to wash anything away from there as one has the habit of sticking her bum over the edge......!

We have found that our local Spar own brand litter to be the best. It has gel crystals in it that absorb, and we get the least smell from that than anything else we have tried.

You can buy a litter tray that fits on the toilet and is meant to eventually teach the cat to go in the lol with no litter tray needed. I am seriously thinking about getting one.

Thanks so far, I had wondered about the gel crystal litters. Also about getting the litter tray bags so you empty it all in one go. I can get most litter cheap through work xx

I can't tell you how nice it is to have a animal in the flat again. We lost our dog in October and first time in 26yrs I've not had a pet xx

My cats don't like the gel crystal thingies- they make a wee noise when they get wet that scares the cats, although that might just be my cats being special.

My two house cats have a covered litter tray with a door which we removed. I used to spend a fortune on cat litter, the best one was a small ball type one but got EVERYWHERE! I now buy the cheapest, poo out everytime I've seen them go and change the whole thing every couple of days. No smell and works out about the same cost as using expensive stuff! Cannot stand the smell of litter trays :-(

My cats don't like the crystals either - most anoying as one of mine won a years supply at a show!

They also don't like wood pellets.
Sophisticat is their preferred choice and Tescos cheap lightweight comes a close second. Avoid ASDA cheap stuff - may as well use gravel.
Chick crumbs & rabbit pellets (unmedicated) give more options for disposal depending on your council.

Stand the tray in an underbed storage box to catch dift. bigger tray are more awkward to empty.

Nappy disposal systems work for cat litter - the bag & turn ones - and are much cheaper than the pet variation.

Scoop on sight and clean out the whole as needed. Few cats need the depth the manufacturers suggest and bout two litres covers the base of a standard large tray and allows a bit of digging.

I board cats and getting their toilet right is a big part of settling them in. Most cats don't like the enclosed trays but an Ikea lack table over an open tray is a good compromise.

I used to use world's best cat litter but this lot are going through it too fast so now use the pets at home own brand multi cat clumping litter. Has baking soda in it to keep smell down and clumping means you remove pees and poos as you go. I did use the crystals one before for my old cats but as they got older they didn't like it. I think it was sharp on their paws :(

ps congratulations sounds like you have a character on your hands there :)
